Thanksgiving Break was fabulous for us. Eric had a nice break from the insanity of school. And it was SO nice to have Eric at home so much! I think Elena and I are having Eric withdrawals now that real life has resumed again. :) But, there are the promises of many Christmas festivities and a glorious Christmas break right around the corner. So we'll hold on. :)Here are just a few highlights from a great week:
Eric let me sleep in on many occasions while he got up with Elena. :) One morning, he and Elena did some coloring. When I woke up and saw their picture sitting on the table, I thought, "Oh, how cute - they colored together.... cool, a tree, a hand-tracing, a sailboat. Wait - what is that?!"

Leave it to a Dad :) Oh, how he makes me smile.

Friday, after a scrumptious Thanksgiving Dinner with Eric's family, we decorated the house for Christmas and put up our Christmas tree. Elena was in heaven. She stayed up past midnight, happy as could be, touching things, looking at lights, and being our little "helper" :) This year she is particularly enthralled with all the pretty things on the tree and the little train that goes around the bottom of the tree.
We also drove around the neighborhood and did a little preliminary Christmas light viewing (in hopes of seeing this totally horrendous, gaudy, bajillions of lights house that we saw last year) and instead saw the most insanely lit up house and yard ever. Every square inch of house and yard is covered- like as in there is net lighting laying in the grass. It wasn't as gaudy and in poor taste as the house we were looking for - but just truly crazy. If any of you are in the neighborhood, we'll take you to it. :)

Most every little kid has some sort of envy/obsession with the new baby's things, right? Lately as I've been working on getting things all set for the new baby, Elena has become obsessed with the baby clothes. It's like the best thing ever basically - Elena loves clothes (she changes her outfit at least three or four times a day) and now she feels like her wardrobe has doubled. Oh, the choices she now has before her! :)
Today, when I was going through boxes of Elena's old clothes, Elena dressed herself in the following:

A "shirt" that is really supposed to be a newborn dress.
"Capris" that are really supposed to be newborn pants.
And a little baby headband.
Right before this, she took the diaper cover that goes with the dress pictured above and put it on, declaring that it was "panties".
Which brings us to another exciting (?) happening. :) Potty training. We've been working on potty training for the last week. A very slow, chill version - giving Elena lots of encouragement, but letting her take it at her own pace. It's been nice so far because Eric and I haven't been frustrated and Elena seems to be open to the idea. She has overcome her fear of the potty and is almost always very enthusiastic to sit on the toilet. But, she doesn't yet seem to understand the concept of actually producing once she's on the toilet. She'll tell us right after she goes in her diaper and then run to the potty. Which seems to be a good sign. Today, she actually had her first accident and then ran immediately to the toilet. So, that's good, right? But, she won't tell us beforehand so we can help her sit on the potty when she goes. And she has sat on the toilet dozens of times, but never actually gone in the potty once. We'll keep working on it. I think she's making progress, just very slow progress. Which is ok.
Mostly, we're just having lots of fun and are excited beyond belief that the Christmas season is here! Hooray!
