Some thoughts...

Having a toddler can be really fun sometimes.

All too often, I find myself focusing more on the tiring, exasperating aspects of it, but the last few days, I've had some time off and been able to take life a little slower and just hang out with Elena around the house. I was just cooking dinner and she came in and got into my baking drawer and got some things out to "cook" with me. It was pretty cute. And right before that, she decided that she was ready to sleep and went and laid down on her bedroom floor with her blanket and her "baby". Then she called to me and told me that she was "going night-night" and that she wanted some milk. :)

Its moments like those that make me realize what a fun, unique time this is. Its so fun watching her learn and grow each day. I love to watch her make observations about her world -"It's hot?", "See, a bird!", etc. She is eager to have me teach her things - new words, how to do something, and so on. And she always wants to help and do what I'm doing - like today she helped me unload the dishwasher (and at the end she went under the sink and got a new dishwashing tablet and put it in the dishwasher-all on her own), talk on the phone, etc. She's a fun little buddy to hang out with. This is an amazing time. She's so innocent and sweet, so receptive and full of energy. No wonder the Lord wants us to be like little children.

It's a joy to watch her learn - she's seriously like a sponge- I tell you, child development is a pretty fascinating subject - the way kids watch and learn things is incredible. Half of the things she can do and say, we never set out to teach her - she just picked them up. I mean, its not like you set out one day and decide to teach your kids English. Sure you try and help them pick up on new words and such, but most of it they just listen to and duplicate. Kids are amazing!

Anyways, those are my thoughts today. I love being around this little one!

Elena decided she wanted to go swimming. Note the swim diaper over the shorts - she dressed herself. So hot.

She has pigtails hiding in the back - she's not losing her hair. :)

it is indeed SO crazy all the stuff kids pick up that you don't even realize you're teaching them. sometimes it freaks me out (because i don't think of myself as the perfect example for a kid), but it really is so amazing how smart these little ones are. thanks for the reminder of all the GOOD things about toddlers. :)

I love the diaper over the shorts. So cute. Man, it really is so nice when we can just slow down and hang out with our kids. They're not nearly as frustrating to me. Like when I'm trying to finish a book... just at the climax... and they think I should give them attention- what is that all about? Ha ha:) I always love it, seriously, when I quit what I'm doing and go play with them. Such sweeties.

Glad you're enjoying the moments. They're so fleeting! It's such an incredible privilege to be a mother:)

Love you, Briana.

It's okay Elena, I dress myself too, everyday. No, really she is adorable!
