Eric and I laid awake in bed last night talking about our fears, thoughts, feelings, etc. related to starting D.I., what the coming months would hold, and about cancer in general. Our mood was pretty heavy last night as our last day of freedom dwindled. Today in the car on the way up to the hospital, Eric turned to me and said, "Well today's the day. Want to turn around and go home?" :) If only, right? Needless to say, today was not looked forward to with much enthusiasm.
But, I'm happy to report that today is ending a lot better than I anticipated! Here's why:
1. We had been sitting in the waiting room of the Hem/Onc Clinic for an unusually long time, when one of the nurses came out to us and said, "Well, do you want the good news or the bad news first? The bad news is that Elena's counts aren't high enough to start D.I. and so you drove all the way up here for nothing. The good news is that you get another week off." There was a mix-up in the information that was given to us a few weeks ago and no one told us that we needed to check her counts yesterday to see if we could proceed today. So, although it's just delaying the inevitable, we get to enjoy one more week steroid and hellish-side-effects free!!! Happy news for these heavy hearts. We celebrated by using our hospital zoo passes and spending the afternoon at the zoo. The weather was cool and everyone was in school/at work, so we had the place basically all to ourselves. It was so fun!
2. I just found out that I won the Pilates DVD giveaway from POJO fitness and Just Cook Already. Boom Baby! It's a DVD I've really been wanting for a long time, but never been able to justify spending the money on. I usually never win ANYTHING - I am so stoked!
