Excellent thoughts

So, before I get to far removed from the things I found in my colorguard bags, I thought I'd share a few of these awesome quotes I came across in my notebooks that I wrote down over the years when I was teaching - because they are awesome:

***************************
This one I found and gave to my girl's when year at band camp. We were a small group that year (only like 6 or 7, if I remember right) and I thought it was perfect.

"Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all."
-George Washington

***************************

This one I first saw hanging in the assistant principal's office. And after four years of teaching in public schools, I understand why he had it there. :)

"The ultimate result of shielding a man from the effects of folly is to people the world with fools."
-Herbert Spencer

***************************
The next bunch are about dancing and performing - oh how I love these quotes! They pretty much sum up a lot of my thoughts and feelings on the subject. And just reading them makes me want to get up, turn on some music, and start dancing. :)

"Technique - bodily control - must be mastered only because the body must not stand in the way of the soul's expression."
-La Meri

"Countless unseen details are often the only di
fference between mediocre and magnificent."
-Anonymous

"So many dancers rely on some sort of magic happening on the stage. They never, for various reasons, work full out in rehearsal. That's very uncreative. They don't discover the kinds of things that add up to a remarkable performance."
-Benjamin Harkarvy

"A song vibrates though my spirit with words of love and compassion and peace. While I dance, I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. That is why I dance."
-Anonymous

"The physical language of the body is so much more powerful than words"
-Bill Irwin

"Musicality is when the dancer's movements appear to create the music - and not the other way around."
-Kristy Nilsson
