Day 29: Fact - There are 12 major types of childhood cancer. Leukemia and cancers of the brain and central nervous system account for more than half of new cases. During fiscal year 2010 Congress allocated $5.1 billion dollars to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The NCI allocated only $200 million (4%) of that money to research for ALL types pediatric cancers.
