Last week was a big week for our little miss. Elena turned five and lost her first tooth! The day before she turned five, we were sitting at lunch and Elena called out to me, "Mom! My tooth is moving!" I thought she was joking (as she often does), but sure enough her bottom middle-right tooth (I'm sure there is some technical name for that tooth, but there you go!) was very loose - on the verge of falling out. It's funny that we missed it. In the week or so before that I had noticed that one of her bottom teeth seemed crooked all of a sudden. I wondered about it for a second and then thought, "Oh well! It's a baby tooth and there's nothing we can do about it now" and promptly forgot about it. And then that "crooked tooth" fell out last Saturday night. :)
Just barely five seems a little early to me to be losing teeth, but who knows. I can't remember when I lost my first tooth, but I though it was closer to six. I think we probably have chemo to thank for the early arrival of the tooth fairy at our house. :| Chemo trashes teeth, unfortunately. But, I guess what's done is done and we just celebrate this milestone.
On Saturday night, Elena was eating her bedtime snack and really worrying about chewing food with her loose tooth. It was hanging on by a thread, so we gave her a pep talk and told her it didn't hurt to pull it when it was that lose. She worked up her courage and then Eric gave it a little tug and it was out before she knew it.

(It was funny when we realized that WE are the tooth fairy and "oh shoot, how are we going to do that? How much will the tooth fairy leave?, etc, etc.)
The tooth fairy's rates have significantly improved since Eric and I were kids, we decided. :D

How exciting!!! This is something in excited for, to have our own little traditions that the tooth fairy can leave!! I lost my first tooth when I was 5 1/2, thanks to a fall off a swing and a broken jaw. Congratulations Elena!!!
i love her little note to the tooth fairy! she looks cute with that missing tooth... and old! how brave of her to let eric pull it. i just can't see sophie ever agreeing to that. :) and yes, the tooth fairy's rates have gone up... the little girl we carpool with said she gets $5 for each tooth! what the?!?! these parents are going to make the bateman tooth fairy look bad! :)

Just a side note...Bri, your mom had her baby teeth all gone and back in, before she started the first grade!!
Looks like the Tooth Fairy HAS improved since I used to get visits...and even since your mom & Uncle Trev had visits!! Guess some things HAVE improved with the passing of time!!!

The tooth fairy HAS improved since we were kids! Good thing it was just her baby teeth that were trashed, I always have had terrible teeth, every dentists daydream;) She looks so cute and grown up with that gap in her teeth!

Cute! All of it is just so cute! I can't believe Elena is old enough to lose teeth! When did that happen? I was just thinking about how cool parenthood is because you get experience all these neat stages with your kids and things are constantly changing. Cool stuff sistah.
